Milos Island

Milos a unique Greek island was born of a volcano and has a distinctive horseshoe shape. The landscape is scenic with adequate vegetation, nice sandy beaches and some spectacular rock formations at the south western part of the island with mountainous terrain and a peak of over 750m in height.

The mineral springs of Milos are located at Adamas, Provatas Bay and Alyki. The hot springs of Adamas are recommended for rheumatism. Rock formations like Sarakiniko and Klephtiko, the white rocks and caves of Kapros secret hideout for the pirates who terrorised the Aegean ports. The colourful Syrmata, small caves, once a beach homes of fishermen as seen at Klima, Mytakas and Mandrakia.

The famous Milos catacombs, dated from the early Christian period 3rd-4th C. are found in the village of Trypiti, 2km south of Plaka. This early-Christian catacombs that are older than Rome's and the ancient marble Greco-Roman theatre is one of the few in Greece.

Allegedly Venus de Milo was discovered on 8 April 1820 by a peasant named Yorgos Kentrotas, inside a buried niche within the ancient city ruins of Milos.

Milos is the current village of Trypiti, on the island of Milos (also called Melos, or Milo) in the Aegean, which was then a part of the Ottoman Empire.

Plaka

Built on the hill is the capital of Milos Island, Plaka, and is only 3.5km north west of Adamas. Plaka is very picturesque with whitewashed houses, flower decorated patios and balconies there are also the traditional Bars and tavernas. Lovely atmosphere.

Cyclades cobbled streets. Visit the Kastro area, from which you have a wonderful view of the North/West part of the island and unforgettable sunsets. The Folk Museum and The Archaeological Museum are also located here and worth a visit.

On your way to the Christian catacombs, near Trypiti (below Plaka) follow the signs, a dirt track leads to the alleged spot where a farmer found the Venus de Milo, marked by a sign. Further along the track to the well preserved Roman Theatre. Footpaths lead down to Klima.

Palios Coffee and Pastry in the centre of Plaka. Tasty pastries and they serve d4elicious food as well.

Barriello Restaurant located in Trypiti. Close to the Church of Saint Nikolaos, fab view over Milos and the Aegean sea. Famous sunset spot! Courtyard and garden seating. Reservation recommendable. Tasty food and lovely wine. Great place.

Adamas Milos main Port

The safe port of Adamas (ranked among the safest natural harbours in the Agean) is now also the largest town on Milos island. Accommodations, restaurants, cafés, mini-markets, travel and car rental agencies, banks and ATMs, a bus hub and a taxi cab stand. Pollonia

sheltered bay form beach. Pollonia is the second major tourist resort, north east coast of Milos.

The sunshade tamarisk tree-lined Pollonia beach, a smallish bay formed mainly sandy area. Pollonia should be of particular interest to families with small children. as most beaches are sandy with shallow water, making it convenient for kids to swim Close to most accommodation, bars and tavernas, shops. mini-market, bakery, and bus stop, Even a kids' playground.

South east side of Pollonia there is long, sandy beach. with a beach bar at one end of the beach during the busy season.

Kimolos ferry links, take the Osia Methodia, a small ferry going from Pollonia To Kimolos several tours daily.

How to get to Milos

By Air

Milos (MLO) has its own airport with daily flights from-to Athens airport. International flights, charter flights, and low fare carrier use Santorini and Mykonos airports.

By Sea

Ferries to Milos depart from Piraeus, Athens. Ferries depart daily in summer. Milos port Adamas. Ferry connection with other Cyclades islands direct to Milos or via Milos is Amorgos, Folegandros, Ios, Koufonissi, Mykonos, Santorini, Serifos and Sifnos.
